Why You Frontin?
by: Maiya Norton | Jun. 05, 2007
Long before Ciara and her tousled mane were parading around “Like A Boy,” RuPaul, the divo of the decade, was sporting the lace-front wig.
Reincarnated via Beyonce, Rihanna, and Mary J. Blige, the trendy tresses are, once again, the talk of beauty shops everywhere.
How does the trend differ from simply grabbing a wig off of a mannequin and heading out? A specialist creates a custom mesh cap to fit your head then individually adds the extensions. After attaching the wig, the excess lace around the crown of the head is either trimmed or must be hidden with the right makeup to achieve a natural scalp look.
The perks to these exclusive locks? Your own hair can take a break and if it’s done right, it looks fabulous! A lace-front is best suited for film or a stage performance that requires heavy foundation. (Check Tyra Banks’ impeccable new hairline!) Up close and personal, the coif may look faux if it isn’t done properly.
The nays? Wig maintenance for the everyday sista could be quite a chore. Celebs that wear it best often have a stylist to assist with the upkeep.
Long, luxurious new locks can range from $1,500 to $7,000. If properly preserved, a laced-front could prove to be a good investment that lasts for many years — as long as the product buildup is kept to a minimum.
So if you’re considering joining the Hollywood Hair Movement, be prepared to have a beauty aficionado on hand and a couple of coins to spare.
Browse these sites for more information but please, give your stylist a ring if you decide to take the plunge. This isn't something you should try at home!

Hey there ... I liked your post about celebrities wearing lace front wigs. Did you know there's a shop in Maryland selling lace front wigs that the stars wear? Check them out at www.hairworksintl.com

These wigs are a great solution for non-surgical hair replacement. Anyone suffering from hair loss should seriously look into them. Another good site for lace front wig information is www.lacefrontwigshop.com
