Color Me Badd

This season, color seems to be a recurring theme.

No better time to add an unexpected splash to your wardrobe, makeup pallet, or hair hue. Vibrant reds, romantic browns, and seductive blondes are popping up in malls, clubs, concerts and offices across the country. Fair to medium skin tones compliment shades of red and blonde, while medium to darker tones are debuting various shades of brown.

Selecting a color that compliments your skin tone is just as important as your wardrobe choices. Religious salon-goers should ask your stylist for help on deciding a color that works with your complexion. Not everyone can pull off “Kool-Aid Red” or “Barbie-Doll Platinum”, but by choosing natural, yet playful colors that accentuate your skin tone, you're bound to make a bold statement in a simple way.

If you’re on a budget, research on your own by looking for pictures of colors you may want to try and ask your friends for help with your final decision. Have a color party and dye it yourself. We like Dark-n-Lovely’s excellent semi-permanent hair colors; they give rich lasting color for 4 to 6 weeks.

Need more style adrenaline? Blending your color, a new trend that highlights different like colors in your hair by fading them into the other, is a great way to take your new color to a funky level. For those of you looking to kick it up a notch — blonde fading into brown, brown fading into red, and blonde fading into chocolate adds a playful twist that is sure to inspire whiplash. Shakira, Beyonce, Keyisha Cole, and even J.Lo have tried this creative trend recently.

The coloring process can take a toll on your tresses — hair treatment is just as important as picking out the right color. Keeping your hair clean, moisturized, and even cutting back on heat will help keep your color in good condition. Whether it’s a dramatic change or an upgrade to your current situation, having fun with color can make a huge difference in your look.
