President Obama is rounding up the ladies for his re-election campaign. First, fashion mavens, Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker, hosted a fundraiser in the latter’s home and now, Grammy Award-winner, Alicia Keys, is joining the crusade.
Tonight, the sultry crooner will host the “Women Vote 2012 Summit” in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The Democratic National Committee Chair, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and an Obama advisor, Valerie Jarrett will join Keys in leading a conversation about the incumbent’s perspective on women’s rights and issues. Seeing as the “war on women’s reproductive rights” has been a hot-button topic, it will be a key issue to address in President Obama’s re-election bid according to The Feminist Majority Foundation.
This isn’t Keys’ first public display of support for the president. Mrs. Swizz Beatz performed at a re-election fundraiser in June and was active in 2008’s Vote for Change campaign, which enlisted musicians to encourage millennials to vote.
In 2009, the Element of Freedom singer also posed as First Lady Michelle Obama in a Glamour magazine photo shoot before telling the interviewer that she rightfully admires the first lady’s elegance.
“She has worked hard for everything she’s accomplished, and done so with grace and humility,” Keys told Glamour. “So many women and girls can identify with her story.”
The “Women Vote 2012 Summit” is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. E.S.T.
