True ‘80s and ‘90s babies were raised on the television staple, “Saved by the Bell.” We were convinced that our favorite characters, including Screech, Zach, and Slater, were our friends and that we would have a similar group of “cool kids” to hang with once we reached the ninth grade.
Though the classic was canceled much too soon, it is now broadcast to a new generation of fans on multiple networks. But, I think we might want to see our childhood heroes in their prime because some of them e.g. Lisa Turtle are no longer recognizable.
Lark Voorhies, 38, who portrayed the attractive, but humble love interest of Screech (Dustin Diamond), appeared on Michael Yo’s “The Yo Show” on Yahoo!’s OMG! blog to a collective Internet gasp of disbelief. The former first crush for teenage boys seemed physically disheveled. Gone was the gorgeous smile and the smooth complexion. In its’ place was a haggard appearance, complete with mismatched foundation and under-eye bags.
A comparison photo surfaced on the internet and Voorhies quickly rose to the top of Twitter’s trending topic for her Michael Jackson-esque evolution.
What happened to Lisa Turtle? The world may never know, especially since Lark appeared composed and answered questions with ease – as if she didn’t realize how different her face is.
You can catch her next on VH1’s “Miss You Much.” Similar to TVOne’s Unsung, the show takes former teen heartthrobs including Lark and Lil’ Romeo down memory lane, allowing them to relive their glory years.
In the meantime, we must live off “Saved by the Bell” re-runs. That’s all we have!
