It seems that after President Obama publicly gave full support of same sex marriage, he also opened the door for major hip-hop artists to come forth and show their support as well.
Recently, Jay-Z stated in an interview with CNN:
“I’ve always thought it as something that was still, um, holding the country back. What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. [It] is no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple.”
Now the King of the South, T.I. is always speaking in favor of same sex marriage. He had this to say an interview for MTV’s RapFix Live:
“Just to speak honestly, and being frank, I don’t care. I think that if a matter doesn’t affect your daily life, you shouldn’t take a hard stand on it if it’s not something that directly affects you. If it doesn’t affect you, then what difference does it make what other people are doing with their lives? I think that you should be able to do whatever you want to do. I don’t see how it matters one way or another.”
The fact that two major artist in the hip-hop game has not only support this issue, but spoke on it in a positive light on major platforms shows the growth and future of hip-hop. Their words may help influence people’s, young and old, mind set when it comes to same sex marriages.
Change is inevitable, and soon same sex marriage will be legalized all over this nation. With the help of influential individuals like Jay-Z and T.I. it might happens sooner than we think.
