Rock star and actor Lenny Kravitz has teamed up with TOMS’ Founder and Chief Shoe Giver Blake Mycoskie be a guest creative director and to design his own shoe collection. Kravitz was encouraged by his stylish daughter Zoe Kravitz to collaborate with TOMS, who is also a fan of the brand. Kravitz immediately fell in love with TOMS‘ concept of donating a pair of shoes to someone in need for every shoe sold. He is even interested in doing one of the Toms’ “shoe drops,” possibly in Brazil or the Bahamas this summer, squeezing it in between the second leg of Kravitz’s world tour that will take him through Europe and Africa.
Of the seemingly unexpected collaboration, TOMS’ Founder and Chief Shoe Giver Mycoskie said, “It was exciting and humbling to work with an icon like Lenny Kravitz and have the ability to share his story and inspiration through this season’s collection. It’s obvious that Lenny’s talent’s go way beyond music, and we’re thrilled that we had a chance to collaborate with him on some really great TOMS.”
Lenny Kravitz is completely involved in every aspect of designing his shoe collection. He is adding his own personal style from color to adding prints, including one decorated Let Love Rule, from his song. Lenny seemed to excel with textile prints to the delight of Blake Mycoskie. Kravitz says he aims to create a general vibe, through his clothes, decorating and broader lifestyle choices, to be comfortable, creative, engaging and inviting. He also says that since he has a strict no “street shoes” in the house rule, he stocks pairs for guests to wear in his homes.
“Being a guest creative director for TOMS was an exciting collaboration,” said Lenny Kravitz. “I’ve been a longtime fan and admirer of the brand, not only for the quality of the product, but also for their social message and commitment to providing shoes to people in need.”
