Nick Cannon has had a series of health scares since January of this year. He was hospitalized for kidney failure in and then hospitalized again, weeks later, with blood clots in his lungs. Now he has revealed to PEOPLE that the kidney disease was a result of an “autoimmune disease that [doctors] found in my system,” and his blood clots were directly connected to his kidney infection. When asked by PEOPLE if his condition was hereditary, Cannon said, “They kind of say [my] autoimmune [disease] is – like a lupus type of thing, but no one else in my family has it.”
In efforts to get his health back in tip-top shape, Nick has made some adjustments to his hectic lifestyle. He stepped down from his New York-based radio show in February to continue his recovery and he is also making an effort to get at least 6 hours of sleep a night. Nick says his doctors have told him his kidney condition is “something I’m going to be living with all my life.” For now Nick is just happy to be alive and is focusing on getting better and being there for his family with wife Mariah Carey.
