A Tunisian model by the name of Hanaa Ben Abdesslem has been named the new face of French beauty giant Lancôme, in a move that will make her the brand’s first ever Muslim ambassador. She will be featured in Lancôme’s new campaign for Teint Idole Ultra 24h foundation.
“Her universal beauty simply channels the je-ne-sais-quoi that makes the uniqueness, strength and charm of every Lancôme woman, said Youcef Nabi, the President of Lancôme International. “
After the 22-year-old won second prize on the Lebanese equivalent of reality show Project Runway, Hanaa signed with modelling agency IMG. She soon after made her runway debut for Vivienne Westwood last year and since has been in editorials for French Vogue and walked the runway for Givenchy, Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta.
Now, the Muslim model, who doesn’t drink alcohol or smoke, is hell-bent on changing perceptions of the modelling industry at home. She says:
“Modeling can be a career choice, too. I plan to change this misconception within my culture”
