The best selling R&B group of all time [not to mention my favorite singing group], Boyz II Men, received the 2,456th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today . Group members Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris were joined by songwriter and producers Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis at the ceremony which convened in front of Los Angeles’ Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. The star is being placed near stars dedicated to fellow R&B greats the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, and the Miracles.
“We’ve been through a lot, man, and the ups and down are crazy,” Nathan Morris said. “But the beautiful thing about being here right now is that I know that these guys feel the same way that I do about music, about love and about God and that right there is what binds us.”
In the 1990′s, Boyz II Men gained international celebrity behind unprecedented success on the pop charts. The group’s first single to reach number 1, 1992′s “End of the Road“, a phenomenal hit, reached the top of charts across the globe. ”End of the Road” would set a new record for longevity, staying at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks, breaking a decades-old record held by Elvis Presley. Boyz II Men would exceed even that record later in the decade with hits “I’ll Make Love to You” and “One Sweet Day” (with Mariah Carey), which each exceeded records for the longest period of time a single remained at number 1.
