Eddie Murphy Named Host of 84th Academy Awards

I’M FREAK’N EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

Before Dave Chappelle, before Kevin Hart, even before Chris Rock…there was Eddie.

First time producer  Brett Ratner made a big move by nabbing Eddie Murphy to host the 84th Academy Awards.  Rant says Eddie “will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show Don and I want to produce in February.” Rumors had surfaced this past weekend of Murphy hosting, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just confirmed the choice today. Last year hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco were the sad attempt of the award show to bring in a “younger, hipper” audience. After such a bad reception of the duo, The producers obviously went back to the drawing board and discovered it’s better to make the wheel better than to re-invent it. Translation: Bring back comedians to host.

Not only is this exciting news, but Murphy will  also be a breathe of fresh air, seeing that one of the biggest complaints about the Academy Awards is the lack of representation for people of color.

Murphy expressed his joy and anticipation for hosting the Academy Awards by stating: “I am enormously honored to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others. “I’m looking forward to working with Brett and Don on creating a show that is enjoyable for both the fans at home and for the audience at the Kodak Theatre as we all come together to celebrate and recognize the great film contributions and collaborations from the past year.”
