Balmain is not a label for those in search of the look for less, and Olivier Rousteing [born in France, of African descent] was promoted in April 2011 from key deputy at the French design house to head designer of the label [replacing Christophe Decarnin] to ensure that the label maintained it’s uber luxe reputation for the Spring/Summer 2012 season. And without a doubt, Rousteing has delivered a phenomenal Spring/Summer 2012 Women’s Collection. The collection takes inspiration from “Rock and Roll”, but with smooth lines and a hint of a “country and western” aesthetic – complete with fringes. A wonderful collection from Rousteing, and a promising sign of what’s to come from the House of Balmain.
