During my morning trendspotting…

I came across the new vid for “How To Love” by Lil Wayne from his upcoming CD “Tha Carter IV“. When I first heard the sparse, acoustic lullaby, I thought; “how odd for Weezy to sound so emotional about love”, given his penchant for fast love and faster women. I got so caught up in the lyrics that I started to wonder if he was using this pillow talk track to indirectly let us in on what goes on in his head when he’s alone in a room, staring at the walls, and in the back of his mind he hears his conscience call. After seeing the video, I think I was right. He picked a great message for the storyline of the clip, and if we’re lucky enough to not lose this very important message in the hoopla of marketing push for the rest of TC4, then this song could (and should) go on to take it’s place with songs like “Waterfalls” (TLC) and “Let’s Talk About Sex” (Salt & Pepa). But then again the CD drops right after the MTV Awards this weekend so you probably won’t see much of this video through the red carpet circus, and Moet and Moscato filled after parties. Nonetheless, I’m glad Weezy found a way to truly connect a song to it’s accompanying video, in such a truly authentic way.
