Renown leader Nelson Mandela has been hospitalized. Mandela, 93, was hospitalized on Saturday to treat a longstanding abdominal complaint. According to current South Africa president Jacob Zuma, Mandela’s doctors thought it was best that he seek “proper specialist medical attention.”
In 1994, Mandel became South Africa’s first black president. This achievement came after Mandela spent 27-years in prison for his tireless fight to end Apartheid.
In recent years, Mandel has since retired and currently resides in Qunu, which is in the southwestern region of South Africa where he was raised.
