Dionne Warwick Pens Letter to Supporters
Posted by on Feb 28, 2012

Dionne Warwick has been seen as the ‘family rock’ since the passing of her cousin, Whitney Houston.  Warwick coordinated Houston’s funeral beautifully and now the singer has penned a letter to those who have been offering her family love and support.

Not only did Warwick write a blog thanking her supporters, but she also included the poem “I’m Free,” which is the same poem she recited at Whitney Houston’s funeral.

She wrote:

my dear friends,

i thank you all for the heartfelt messages of condolence sent to console my family and me in our hour of grief

all that sent or thought to send words of inspiration to us we truly appreciate this and they will hold a very special place in our minds and hearts………thinking back it is still very surreal and will not lessen immediately for any of us but we are all comforted in knowing the breadth and width that our special one WHITNEY spanned across this vast world of ours having the ability to fill with the love of beauty, spirit, and music for all to get joy from………….so many have expressed feeling the sincere presence of GOD through their television sets, as was felt at the NEW HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH………..WHITNEY was and is a child of GOD and she had great pleasure in sharing her belief with so many………..there have also been many comments on the poem that i read and i have been asked if i could share it………it is my pleasure to do so and in so doing i hope it will serve as a comfort in the many trials we all can, have, or will face.

my family and i all thank you for caring and showing your support for us

“I’M FREE”

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free, I’m following the path GOD laid for me
I took his hand when i heard him call, I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work or play
Tasks undone must stay that way, I found that peace at close of day

If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, oh yes, these things I too will miss
Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life has been full, I’ve savored much, Good friends, good times, and a loved ones touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don’t lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me
GOD wanted ME now………HE SET ME FREE

my love to you all……….until next time

dionne
