Good things always come to those who wait!  Shaggy fans have been anticipating a new album from Mr. Boombastic for quite some time, and the release of the singer’s new album, Summer In Kingston, has definitely lived up to their expectations.

Summer In Kingston hit No.1 on the iTunes Reggae charts in its first week of release. Since then, the album’s lead single, “Sugarcane” has received heavy airplay on various radio stations.

I had the chance to speak with Shaggy about his return to the music industry back in July. However, many of his fans still wondered why Shaggy chose this album to make a comeback with. Well, I have the details on why he made this decision and you can check out what Shaggy had to say below:

“I want this album to embody what Jamaica is which is a feel good, easy listen.  At this point in my career, I have to reinvent myself because that’s what you do.  I had to come with a style of music that’s organic and credible.  Still have the cross over tone hence “Sugarcane”.  It has its tongue in cheek, it’s ambiguous, it’s clever, its funny, it’s Shaggy!”

So what’s next for Shaggy?

The “It Wasn’t Me” singer will be headlining at the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series next Monday. The concert is free and will be held at Wingate Field on August 22 in Brooklyn, NY.

If you haven’t seen the official music video for “Sugarcane,” you can check it out below.

Summer In Kingston is now available for digital download through iTunes.
