Note To Self

It takes more than furniture and decorative accents alone to make a pad very Vixen!

There are a few seemingly extraneous items that you should always have on hand to make sure you’re prepared for anything on the home front: fresh flowers, a bottle of champagne, and good stationary.

In this, the Age of Instantaneous, carefully thought-out forms of expression have fallen out of favor. Still, there are occasions and circumstances when email just won’t cut it—forget about texting—and a handwritten note is necessary. Fear not, we’ll break down Vixen’s stationary staples.

The Paper

Since this is personal correspondence, try to find stationary that speaks to your essence. In a way, your ‘personal paper’ can say just as much about you as your wardrobe does! Don’t know where to start looking? Here are a few of our favorites:

Erin Condren Design’s note cards ($35) are playfully pretty, without being childish.

Smythson of Bond Street’s Feather Motif correspondence cards ($85) are sophisticated, with a delicious hint of the eccentric.

Target’s Orange Blossom Executive Stationary set ($30) is ideal for the Vixen with more conservative, classic tastes.

If you’re a girl who always insists on being noticed, Neiman Marcus’ bold Colorful Personalized Notes ($136) are just the thing for you.

The Rules

It’s up to you how you express yourself, but there are a few basic rules that go along with personal correspondence:

  • Always spell the recipient’s name correctly.

  • Send the note immediately upon receipt of gift, or upon notification of wonderful (or unfortunate) news.

  • Express yourself genuinely. The only thing a handwritten note must be is – heartfelt.
