Last night I attended the Urban World Film Festival Screening of All Things Fall Apart starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Jackson proved himself to be the next in line in reference to rappers that can really act. In no way am I putting him on the pedestal that Queen Latifah, Will Smith and the late Tupac Shakur are on, but he’s putting himself in that staple with the up and comers like Common, Mos Def and very few others.
Being a fan of 50 Cent and a sucker for a good football movie I walked in with a pessimistic approach not wanting to hype myself up about the film only to leave and it fell short. That is the furthest thing from the truth. The riveting story of a NFL prospect months before entering the draft being diagnosed with cancer is not the typical college football star story. We know of the major injuries that can crush a player’s dream but this added a deeper scenario. Having your entire family banking on that NFL contract and a sickness putting the family further back then they could have ever imagined.
Co-stars Mario Van Peebles and Lynn Whitfield were on hand after the screening to answer questions.
They gushed about how dedicated to his role and committed to this project 50 Cent was.
To see more of what they said and to watch the trailer go here.
Jackson recently landed a distribution deal with Image Entertainment for the film so the rest of the world will be able to see All Things Fall Apart in early 2012 . Check out more pics from the event below.
