It’s far from an over-arching dream nowadays where reality shows are being handed out like hot-selling mixtapes in the 80s. There’s a seven-year-old “Honey Boo Boo Child” running around cashing in big bucks for her famed quotes, adding the TLC project to the roster of must-see TV. But don’t be fooled, there are a large group of women who would snap into actress mode right now and depict a tiny country bumpkin themselves, given the opportunity. From blockbuster catfights and incessant love triangles, without a doubt, reality television makes for a calamitous genre of junk TV. Kind of like the kit-kat bar to the perfectly well-balanced diet–a guilty pleasure.

And though some may continue to bash the Kim Kardashians of the world, reality royals continue to build on their gated empire that have women everywhere running to attain the same version of instant success. It may look easy to reveal your inner crazy on cue, but is it really for you?

Aspiring reality stars take to casting auditions like 9-to-5’s. It’s their moment to tap dance for producers and a chance to open the gates to reality fame. Remember shows like Laguna Beach and The Hills? TV spots that first made us feel like our lives and friends are cool enough to have our own series. But as much as you may live a camera-ready lifestyle, reality shows want moral extremes, vulnerability, those willing to reveal their most intimate and personal experiences.

Auditions are everything, except a walk in the park either. It’s highly unlikely that you will be draft picked by a producer on the street who thinks you have the IT factor to star in The Real World. In fact, the way you look has little to do with what the network execs want from you. So that you never walk into an audition room blind-sided, keep in mind that you are one of hundreds auditioning for the role to play yourself.

Ask yourself this: What makes you stand out? Do you have any juicy relationships? What’s the wildest thing you’ve done out of anger? Is your ex still in your life? Do you have any weird habits or routines? What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done? Any past eating disorders, drug problems or bad drinking habits? Do you get along with various personality types? What’s your relationship like with your family?

Producers want to know it all, ladies. So before diving in to live out your reality show dreams, be prepped to show and tell everything.

2013 is baby bump season.

It feels like every week someone is either having a baby or pregnancy rumors are surfacing. Whether they’ve handled a growing belly gracefully or received the short end of the media stick, we’re elated that these celebs sacrificed their careers (and bodies) in the name of newborn baby cuteness (hi, Monica and Adrienne Bosh!).

Finally we can check a few of our VC’s–Vixen Celebs–off our baby radar (Amber Rose, Lola Monroe) and thank them for gracing the world with another addition to their famous family. Although we still have a slew of celebs that need to catch the reproduction wave (Gabrielle Union and Meagan Good, for starters), for now, we’ll hold off the baby brigade a few more months to shine light on the ones already carrying.

Choosing to dance my way into the office every day with a smile when it’s not genuine can be exhausting. Lord knows I’m a magnet for struggle and I got 99 problems like Hov but opening the VIBE HQs door with my head held high can take me to task when on the inside, I’m feeling lower than dirt. Case in point: today.

One of said studies took place at a VIP event hosted by industry folks I consider family. Libations on a Sunday night with my closest sounded like the best way to start off a fresh week. And while I made sure to consume a good meal beforehand, my glass stayed on refill for three hours straight. One too many adult beverages then turned me into, let’s just say, the lesser version of myself.

I’ve never been an angry drunk but I learned that liquor can make you anything and drunk words can sometimes be sober thoughts turned ugly.

Long story short: I turned into a sideshow that sounded like a foreign film when those in attendance recalled the details to me.

When I woke up this morning (with a very painful hangover I might add and I never get hangovers), it was extremely hard to mull through Monday without apologizing to the people who had to deal with me acting a fool. Thankfully, I know amazing people who not only accepted my sorry, but said it was all dirt under the rug.

Sometimes, making mistakes is the easy part. Being able to take responsibility for them is a whole other venture.

For now, I’m putting the thirst on hold (sober happy hour, anyone?) so that this type of decision-making doesn’t become a frequent affair.

There aren’t many women who can say that they were the first at anything. Then again, there aren’t many women who are like Tionna Smalls. The 28-year-old East New York native can now add history-maker to her long list of accomplishments. As a self-proclaimed S.O.O.B.W. (we’ll get to that later), Smalls is the first African American female to have her own show on MTV. The 20-episode series, appropriately titled Girl, Get Your Mind Right, is set to air on Monday night (May 20 at 6 p.m.), and Smalls could not be more excited.

“It feels wonderful. It’s unreal,” Smalls says. “I have always been obsessed with the entertainment industry. I was that girl who spent her money on all the magazines–J-14, Word Up!, Right On!–and I was known to write in if I didn’t like something.”

The little girl with dreams of celebrity is now a bonafide relationship expert, author, business owner, dating coach and television host. You may remember her as the tell-it-like-it-is counter part of VH1’s What Chili Wants in 2010. But after doing “A milli with Chili,” Tionna’s ready to start doing things on her terms.

On her new reality TV spot, she shows young women how to get the love they deserve, while maintaining their own self-respect and standards. “I love mentoring the girls, but I’m like an older sister. If you want the advice with fluff, go ask ya’ mama. I say what everyone else is too afraid to say.”

Her loyal fan base keeps it real with her too. A quick scroll through her Twitter mentions or Instagram comments reveals that Smalls’ fan base is one of a kind. “One of them called me a S.O.O.B.W. the other day. It means Self Obsessed Overweight Black Woman. I thought about it, fell in love with it, and I’ve been running with it ever since.”

Most people would take that comment as an insult, but this small quip is a testament to how much Tionna values the truth, no matter how blunt it is. “I am overweight, I am black, and I do love myself,” she said, pointing to the I Love Me tattoo she dawns on her left wrist. “I don’t take it as a negative thing. At the end of the day, they just want to see me win.”

Oprah too. Just as the interview came to a close, Tionna speaks about her story in the Daily News. Lady O’s picture is below hers, and in a very peculiar way, Oprah seems to be looking up at Tionna with a proud and welcoming expression. Tionna says in awe, “Tell me that isn’t symbolic.”

Is it a sign of an epic 2013, where Smalls will release a new book, complete a screenplay and promote the new talent from her Talk Dat Ish publishing company?

Hosted at the Nail Boutique in Brooklyn, the “Everything Girls Love: Because You Deserve It” event was all about the empowerment of women. “I felt like women needed a network of sisterhood,” Smith explained. “It’s not about what you have on, the latest shoes. It’s about the real nitty gritty, unveiled, un-judged sister talk.”

Everything Girls Love (EGL) is an organization founded by Yandy among other business-minded women where they “personify the phrase ‘girl power.’” With over a hundred women present at the event, including makeup artists and vendors selling everything from Hennessy cupcakes to weaves and eyelashes, the program’s mission statement holds true.

“The mission of EGL is being a woman who cannot compromise her family or her career but can be great at both. We are women that come from diverse backgrounds,” she says. “We all have different careers, we all have different ethnicities, but one thing we have in common is focusing on our families and our businesses and being great at both things.”

As the head of her own music management company, star of the VH1 series LHHNY, the brand ambassador of My Extensionz and president of EGL, Smith is about her dollars. But as a mother, first and foremost, the 32-year-old media mogul is proof that you can balance business and family. Because of that the diaper-changing, bottle-feeding vet has a bit of advice for Tamar Braxton and other mommies-to-be.

“Embrace every moment. Take as many photos as you can, take as many videos as you can. Every single day is changing. I look at my boy and every single day he’s doing something different. Every single day there’s a new hill that he overcomes.”

She later added, “You can be great at being both a mom and a businesswoman, you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other.”

A great businesswoman she is, the multi-million dollar entrepreneur is just getting started. EGL not only has a magazine and accessory line that’s selling internationally, the organization is also expanding to include a loungewear line.
