Ride the Clutch

The day bag has, since the turn of the century, grown to gargantuan proportions — in both size and prominence as a status symbol.

Though these epic handbags are über-convenient and very chic, they are accompanied by some stylistic hazards: the occasional bruised shoulder and the frequent overshadowing of one's outfit. This spring, as the days brighten, lighten up your quotidian load with a day clutch.

Less ornamental, though larger, than its evening counterpart, the day clutch adds a dash of decadence to any outfit. The overall effect is completely contemporary and, though there is a sophistication to the day clutch, there's something rebellious about it as well. These small, strapless purses make a bold statement: that the woman with the small purse can go anywhere on the fly and doesn't need a lot of ‘props’ to be her fabulous self.

A Vixen favorite is Susan Farber's Mezzo Sophia. Available in washed, patent, and classic leather finishes, the Mezzo Sophia's lush silhouette is definitely different than the average clutch. There are no sharp angles, no hard shell - this bag is butter-soft, with languid curves, accented with a bow that is more sensual than schoolgirl. It's a great size for toting all of your spring/summer essentials, more importantly, small enough to allow your favorite outfit to shine.
