I BELIEVE IN WEAVES
I Believe in Weaves
Exciting news: I got my first ever weave! I’ve had braids, a relaxer, and up until last fall my hair was natural for about seven years. But never before have I ventured into the wonderful world of faux hair. Just so you understand that this is a major transformation, take a look at this picture of me in 2006 when I was rockin’ a ‘fro.
And here I am with my amazing weavologist, Q, right after he finished sewing in my new, long, flowing tresses. Look how he is working the camera….too cute.
I met celeb hairstylist/cutie-pie Q, at a Vixen shoot in March and ever since then he’s been threatening to “weave me up for the summer.” Well he finally did it and I am officially LOVING my new ‘do. I knew it would be fly because I’ve seen Q’s work on a couple Vibe colleagues (I won’t blow them up) and on celebs like Kimora Lee Simmons. The man can do hair.
The only issue I’m having is the ITCHING. I’ve had the weave for one week and two days now and it’s getting better but my scalp is still itchy. Even after a thorough washing yesterday. Are there any Vixens out there who have dealt with this? Please hit me back with some advice. In the meantime, I’m going to raid the beauty closet and try out a few products. Look out for my fave scalp soothers in a future issue of Vixen and/or right here. Oh I guess I should welcome you to my blog. I almost forgot that this is my first entry. But I’ve been blogging in my head so it doesn’t feel like it. But actually typing it out and posting it has been fun! This is definitely going to be a regular thing.

The itchy scalp is caused by getting your hair sewn in. Whenever I get my hair sewn, I notice for the first 2-3 weeks, my scalp is tender and itchy. I believe it's caused by braiding your hair then sewing the weave onto the braids/net. I would suggest using IC Leave-In Conditioner for braids. It helps with the irritation as well as protects your natural hair!! Glad to see you're a part of the "extended" family now!! LOL

Looove It! I've heard that tea tree oil soothes the scalp, I think you should definitely opt for something light like that, so it doesn't build up causing more itchiness.

Girl I live for a sew-in... and I used to have the itchies but now I use a dry shampoo and wild growth hair oil on my scalp in between visits to the salon to get my track washed and tightened

I got a weave on the 4th of July. I washed my hair this morning and it felt great for awhile. Now it is itching again. The problem I have is that my beautician put a net over my braids therefore I cannot easily get to my scalp. Right now I have resorted to the classic head-tap. However, my scalp is so itchy that I am beating myself up!

I love it. I did a weave this summer as well. I use tea tree oil on it daily that keeps the itchyness nown but also i have used Dr. Miricle grow hair serum and just put it on my scalp between the braids it gives my head a nice tingly refreshing feeling.

Here's a quick and easy solution:
2 drops pure peppermint oil
4 oz of distilled water ( I use evian though)
Put it in a spray bottle and shake it up, shake it up, shake it up shake it! Spray the solution at the root, and there is all the relief you need darling.

Congrats! Last October ('06), I recently got my first weave also after being natural for six years. To relieve the itching I just invested in a good rat tail comb. It gets every inch that you're craving. Don't forget to carry it with you!

I am happy for your new weave but I get mine sown in once a month and how do you keep your hair from looking tired and dull in between trips to the shop. It is like one week later I look like I got my hair done in "shanana's" kitchen with old synthetic weave instead of Human hair weave in a costly salon. I admit I don't even know how to flat iron my hair but something has to give or I don't see the point in spending my money on weaves that look tired in one week. Help.

You look great but I prefer your natural look. I would recommend that you grease your scalp every other day in the morning to relieve itchiness.
