Last week J Records invited a few close and personal friends to an Alicia Keys "As I Am" listening session (that's the new album). Usually a listening session is a bunch of editors and industry executives sitting in a room listening to new tracks from an artist's upcoming album.....and initially this was no different, the "headnodders" filled the front row and the chatter of "How have you been?, We must do lunch soon" echoed into the hallway . The listening session began and 3 tracks from the new album were played. A VIXEN MUST HAVE: When it drops in late September every real VIXEN must have "As I Am" in her library - TRUST!!!! The track "SUPERWOMAN" is fire (and seceretly about me- lol). As usual fruit, cheese, crackers and beverages were served. However, when I noticed there were sandwiches and gourmet cheese I knew this VIXEN girl was in store for BIG THINGS. After we listened to a few tracks my hopes of something BIG happening faded but the album was so dope that I was not at all disappoionted. The tracks were a direct reflection of the spirt and energy that we have all come to love about Ms. Keys; powerful, inspirational and therputic. This lady can "sang" and with this new album she remains at the top of my "All Things VIXEN" list. The session came to an end and we were asked to exit the room through another one of the studios, following Alicia's publicist out. Of course I lagged behind saying hello to friends and when I stepped into the studio guess what happened? Ms Alicia Keys was sitting behind a piano with an inviting smile asking the audience how they liked the new album. This was my first! As long as I've been in this industry (in some capacity or another) I have never been to an Alicia Keys show or seen her perform and I've been to a lot of shows. For the next 45 mins Alicia did her thing for an audience of no more than 25 people. Yall, it was great. At that moment I felt like the true Vixen I am - Blessed. Blessed to have the opportunity to share a room with an amazing artist, woman and hustler making her dreams happen. HERE'S THE "LO LO" The album "As I Am" is out late September - GO GET IT and let me know what you think. FOR THE GROWN AND SEXY Book a trip late September/early October make sure you have all of Alicia's albums on your Ipod. -Songs in A Minor (2001) -The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003) -Unplugged (2005) -As I Am (2007) - this is the one with the song about me on it I know this blog is about places all around the world. So, don't sleep on New York City - great things are happening here all the time. However if you need a break from the city; try a few of my favorite "out of the city" trips below. This past weekend I was invited to speak at a STyle Bermuda conference. STyle Bermuda is an organization founded by Ms. Shiona Turni (Google her). Born and raised in Bermuda, Shiona is committed to sharing her knowledge, experience and passion for fashion with the youth of the island. Although, I was only on the island for about 49 hours it was a fantastic experience and really deserves a little "blog time". When I was waiting in the departure lounge at JFK airport I had no idea what I was in store for until Mr. Wouri Vice, Stylist to the Stars, arrived with only minutes to spare and the non-stop action began. (Google him too!) For all my fashion ladybugs and VIXENS "in training" take good notes because I will and have dropped a few "fashion and beauty" names you MUST know if you trying to get in the game. The ladies in Bermuda came hungry, ready to hustle and even more ready to secure upcoming internships in the industry. I love to see “us” ladies prepared and ready to make whatever we want happen. They were bringing the heat one way or another...... VIBE Vixen was in the house for sure!! W Magazine, Seventeen Magazine, Giant Magazine and public relations reps from Victoria Secret and Christian Dior made guest appearances. Powerful ladies and gentleman making major moves. STyle Bermuda really did the damn thing! The goal was to showcase careers in fashion, entertainment and beauty for young Bermudain women. Job well done – I’ve already received a few resumes and look forward to having the Bermuda girls visit the VIXEN office when they come to town.
