Evelyn’s known for her memorable and cutting phrases from the infamous “You’re a non-m*th*rf*cking factor b*tch,” to the recent “You’re not in the circle.” While neither were necessarily polite, her latest commentary takes the cake.

On Twitter, of all the disrespectful tweets she receives (in reference to her and others she interacts with), she chose the following:

Kita and Evelyn have been at odds publicly for quite some time. While Terrell Owens, who Kita works for, and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, who Evelyn is engaged to, are best friends, the women are known enemies.

Their rift first started when Mo of The T.O. Show did a video interview with Hip Hollywood calling Evelyn the real “non-m*th*rf*cking factor” and “a walking yeast infection.” Kita can be seen in the background egging Mo on.

The conflict has reached its pinnacle with Evelyn’s latest tweet. Though the words didn’t stem from her mouth, we think Evelyn should have known better than to endorse such an inflammatory statement by retweeting it. Furthermore, many Twitter users felt the tweet reeks of racial insensitivity. The tweet Evelyn sent out points out that Kita wears a weave as if that’s an insult. We know women of all races wear weave including many of Evelyn’s friends. Moreover, people perceive that the ‘tranny’ comment was a stab at Kita’s pronounced facial features—a wide nose and full lips—which critics are linking to her ethnicity. The fact that Evelyn is engaged to an African-American man whom she called a “n-gger,” and surrounded by African-American “friends” on the hit reality show Basketball Wives only exacerbates the situation.

Do you think Evelyn’s retweet was racially motivated? What do you think of her conflict with Kita?

She was a stripper, she chases fame, she leaked her own nude photos, etc. One thing we DO know and can all agree on: that woman is in love.

There’s something about her glow when she is with Wiz Khalifa that is not fabricated or manufactured for fame in any way. With him, it seems she’s found that whole, unwavering, all-encompassing kind of love that we can all tip our hats to. She literally swells with pride at his every accomplishment, she feels confident and encouraged enough to step in the studio for the first time with him at her side, she has met his mother and loves her to death, she can’t stop talking about him, she can’t keep her hands off of him.

There’s a passion you can clearly see in their feelings for each other that is refreshing and endearing. Even when they’re making out on the red carpet, we can’t help but appreciate the kind of love that drives you so crazy that you can’t help but act out a bit in public. She’s overjoyed and over the moon about a man she calls “the love of her life,” and if that’s not something to scream from the rooftops, what is?

We even love that Wiz is equally sprung. In fact, he’s so head over heels for Amber that he serenaded her onstage in front of hundreds at his sold-out concert. It’s thrilling to see a man so openly express his love for his girlfriend at an age when juggling multiple lovers and avoiding commitment seems like the glorified norm.

We also can’t help but commend how they stayed above the fray when Amber’s more-famous ex, Kanye West, took shots at the couple during his performance at Coachella. He rapped “I don’t do anything for that blonde dyke, and she’ll do anything when the time’s right” and his and Wiz’s camps were reportedly involved in a scuffle following the show. Yes his modified rhyme was a low blow but it clearly had little impact on Amber’s happiness with Wiz, which proves, without a shadow of doubt, that she is truly happy—so happy that her ex’s antics no longer phase her.

Sure women turn their noses up at Amber because she used to be a stripper and because they express their feelings with tattoos of each others’ names on their fingers, but the fact is: love, true love is something that should be celebrated. And from the looks of it, that’s exactly what Amber has found.

What do you think of her relationship with Wiz? Do you think it’s genuine?

Ten years after the tragic death of one of R&B’s most beloved figures, Aaliyah Dana Haughton, BET attempted to celebrate her memory with Aaliyah: One in A Million, an hour-long tribute to the fallen star. The network promoted the special with the promise of rare photos, exclusive interviews with loved ones and never-before-seen video footage. Though we’re familiar with their history of missing the mark (the 2011 BET Awards being the most recent example), we were hopeful and even appreciative of their efforts, as they were the only network honoring the star with such an extensive program. Needless to say, they fell short. Damon Dash’s and Timbaland’s interviews notwithstanding, the special seemed lazy and rushed.

Here are 5 things we wish it would have covered:

- An Actual Performance…or Two
I don’t know about you, but when I think of a tribute, I think of people honoring an icon using the vehicle that said artist loved the most: art. The interviews were revealing and touching at times but as that’s all the tribute offered (save her music videos that we’ve all seen and minimal rare footage of Aaliyah), that’s not enough. A dance tribute with Fatima at the helm is something we could have cherished, enjoyed and (after learning every step) emulated. More so, it would have helped stir up in our hearts the feeling Aaliyah gave us when she was alive; the magic and joy we all felt each time we watched her dance.

-Less Videos
The special undoubtedly was compromised by the significant number of videos BET aired, which came off as a time filler. Don’t get me wrong; we love every clip from Are You That Somebody? (which we all danced to) to Rock The Boat (which they did at least offer some behind-the-scenes footage for). But we’ve seen those videos. We’ve been watching them for 10 years. And every blogger/Facebook user/TV network worth their salt aired her videos throughout the day. What we would have loved to see, is simply, something we haven’t seen before. More interviews with those closest to her and those who loved her. More behind-the-scenes footage and rare interviews of Aaliyah just being her charming self. More stories about what she was like before we came to know her: the adorable Detroit girl with an angelic voice and a dream.

-A Tribute to Her Style
The tribute took us on a timeline through Aaliyah’s music and film career and left us pondering what could have been. But not nearly enough time was dedicated to what has endured about Aaliyah in addition to her songs and movies: her style. Aaliyah’s look was groundbreaking. She wore baggy jeans, belly shirts, eye patches and caps and gave them an irresistible, feminine appeal. She was as sexy in a dress as she was in a jersey because she wore each look with confidence. At a time when it was unheard of, and R&B/hip hop was still very much off mainstream radar, she was tapped to be the face of Tommy Hilfiger. That’s huge. And her swoop. It was the “Rihanna cut” before there was one. There were few girls in the 90s who didn’t try to recreate Aaliyah’s sexy, mysterious look. With her style, she taught us to defy gender convention and to find a signature look all our own. And that’s not worth more than a mention, BET?

- Her Family and Fans
Though her cousin, who was also her manager, was featured, his recollection of Aaliyah’s story came from a business perspective—which is great, except for the fact that our connection to Aaliyah is very emotional. She struck a chord in us with her sense of individuality, her quiet confidence and mystery, her sweet spirit and extraordinary talent. We’re fully aware of the story of how she was signed, etc. What about how she made people feel? How loving and silly and kind she was when you were around her? Her family could’ve captured this had they been made more of a focus. Her mother was completely absent. Her brother, who was also her best friend, wasn’t featured enough. As we’ve seen in documentaries on Tupac and Biggie, it’s the mothers that humanized their larger-than-life sons and tugged at our heartstrings in the process. This was a huge oversight on BET’s part.

Likewise, It’s great to see the people that worked with Aaliyah but she always made a point to say how much she loved her fans—and 10 years later, it’s clear that we still love her. A montage of people recounting the first time they saw Aaliyah perform or why they’ll always miss her would have been compelling and memorable.

- Her Influence
As I mentioned, BET attempted to wrap the tribute up in a pretty bow with talk about Aaliyah’s immediate plans for the future: the Matrix movie, the Grammys performance and more dreams that she spoke of but sadly, did not live to fulfill. The mood was somber as it encouraged viewers to mourn the loss of potential. Had I been in the BET planning meetings, I would have argued that we should end the tribute on the note that Aaliyah’s legacy is visible today; her presence and impact is very much felt in the myriad of singers from Beyonce to Ciara to Ashanti who were clearly influenced by her. I would love to hear from those contemporary artists about how Aaliyah inspired them—as well as from artists like J.Cole and Drake who keep her name alive in their rhymes ’till this day. What is it about Aaliyah that ten years later elements of her style, sound and dance routines still impact today’s music? That part of her legacy did not receive the attention it deserves.

In closing, while BET’s intentions were good and they did try, in the words of our late great Aaliyah, “dust yourself off and try again.”

What do YOU think?

I’ve been a Beyoncé stan for as long as I can remember. Since first hearing her velvety-smooth soprano on Destiny’s Child’s “No, No, No” remix, I’ve eagerly anticipated every musical offering she’s given us. The album cuts (“Now That She’s Gone) and soundtrack singles (“Perfect Man”) that didn’t receive mainstream attention during her Destiny’s Child days were regulars in my personal playlist. I got braided cornrows with blonde highlights to match her look in the “Say My Name” video and was sure to rock midriff tops that showed off my navel ring just like Beyoncé’s. I loved her! But of course, this was all before she achieved mainstream fame.

When she did, throngs of fans started to gravitate to her, and I felt myself slowly drifting away. The songs that seemed to speak to me as a teenager when she was a part of Destiny’s Child and as a young woman on her first solo album were missing from her pop records. The lyrics weren’t nearly as powerful and strong, and her glamorous look, radio-friendly sound and sex-charged dance moves weren’t enough to compensate for the change. She was offering style, sex and star power over substance, and I wasn’t into the “new” her. It was then that her live show won me over. She was phenomenal in concert and her dynamic moves coupled with her larger-than-life Sasha Fierce personality were worth every penny and more. She hadn’t lost me yet.

And then, 4 dropped. In many ways, I think Beyoncé tried to appeal to fans like me with an old-school, R&B sound alongside lyrics and melodies that could stand the test of time. However, she did it at the price of the millions of the fans she acquired with “Single Ladies” that prefer infectious pop hits and sing-a-long lyrics. To her team’s dismay, that crowd wasn’t feeling her women’s empowerment anthem, “Run The World (Girls).”

Now, it seems neither demographic has the fire for Beyoncé they once had. From the lukewarm reception of the numerous singles she has released from 4 and her feature on Watch The Throne to the little-to-no buzz her video for “1+1″ generated, it’s worth it to wonder if the “Queen B” is losing her sting. Though her talent is undeniable, the constant push to crown her an icon (like Jay-Z’s comparison of her and Michael Jackson) and the incessant media coverage (both on blogs and in Beyoncé’s own magazine cover takeover) seem to be pushing people away.

It’s true. she’s been the number one female in this game for a minute–let’s just hope that minute isn’t up.

Are we tired of Beyoncé’s formula of sex, girl power and over-the-top glamour?
