One of our favorite set of sonic soul-mates has officially split.
Yes, Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri’s outstanding tenure producing game-changing chart-toppers has come to an unfortunate end. Best known for producing two of the biggest hits of her career, “We Belong Together” and “Always Be My Baby,” it’s no secret that Dupri and Carey make beautiful music together—her five octave voice and his vision and beat building prowess make for some of the world’s most iconic tracks. The music mogul told Billboard, “I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to my work. I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.”
Well, there you have it from Mr. Dupri himself—direct and relatively shade-less. With news of their split, the blogs have been buzzing with rumors that Carey has been working with another lyrical legend, Kevin Liles. All good, but we’re still crossing our fingers for more hot R&B collabs from Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri sometime in the near future.
