ferguson protestors sue police for 41 million

A group of Ferguson protestors are suing their police for $40 million, alleging that cops violated their civil rights with arrests and assaults involving tear gas and rubber bullets during demonstrations stemming from the Aug. 9 shooting death of Michael Brown.

According to Reuters, the suit says cops exhibited “militaristic displays of force and weaponry,” (and) interacted with protesters “as if they were war combatants.” Six plaintiffs filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, including a 17-year-old boy who was arrested with his mother at a McDonald’s.

The defendants include the city of Ferguson, St. Louis County, Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Delmar, Ferguson police officer Justin Cosmo, and other unnamed police officers from Ferguson and St. Louis County. Neither party has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
