On Tuesday (July 22), award-winning film director Spike Lee posted a video on Instagram and Youtube that combined the startling footage of Eric Garner, a black man who died July 17 after being accosted by the NYPD, and a memorable scene from his 1989 film, Do The Right Thing.

Last week, Garner died after being put in a chokehold by a police officer, an act that is strictly prohibited by the law enforcement agency. The entire incident was recorded by Garner’s friend, Ramsey Orta, and documents the police officer continue to choke Garner even after he was restrain end and repeatedly says he can’t breathe.

Lee titled his mashup of footage, “Radio Raheem and the Gentle Giant” after the name of a character from Do The Right Thing who similarly died from a brutal police chokehold, and Garner’s nickname.
