Just as we suspected, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s On the Run Tour kicked off with a bang—or more accurately, a nuclear bomb—on Wednesday (June 25) night in Miami. The highly-anticipated tour’s debut night brought rap’s first couple together in front of an arena of thousands, and just like that, Elevator Gate is a distant memory. But fans weren’t fawning over the husband and wive’s tight-knit Bonnie and Clyde love, it was the styling. We think we can all agree that the fashion itself in a Beyoncé Knowles-Carter production, warrants its own discussion.
In true Sasha Fierce fashion, Beyoncé recruited only the best and most exclusive designers to execute the overall look and aesthetic for the On the Run Tour costumes. In the past, designers like Mugler, Pucci, Ricardo Tisci, and DSQUARED2 have executed one-of-a-kind creations for the sartorial singer. This time around, Mrs. Carter added a new name to the list—Nicola Formichetti, burgeoning designer of Italian clothing company, Diesel, was asked to lend his fashion expertise for the tour with five custom Fall 2014-inspired outfits in addition to pieces for her hubby, army of backup dancers, and most importantly, a special gift for Baby Blue.
Aside from her glamorous and over the top costumes Fomichetti explained to Style.com, “With Beyoncé, we wanted to do something real. She’s a real woman, a real bombshell, and it was all about showcasing this strong, fierce woman. So we focused on her body, and used super-stretchy denim for [last night's] jumpsuit, which just makes her tits and her ass look even more amazing than they already do.”
Honestly, we can’t agree enough that Mrs. Carter is slaying this denim jumper and most importantly we love that Diesel is featured in the show amongst the likes of Givenchy, Tom Ford, and Versace. Throughout the tour we will see all five custom Diesel costumes made by Formichetti.
Vixens, what do you think of Beyonce’s On the Run Tour debut in Diesel?
