Sometimes father’s don’t get enough credit for being a great parent like mothers do. But Father’s Day is our thank you for the men who raised us and taught us the meaning of a real man. With singers and rappers heating up the charts, we forget that despite their explicit music and rough personas their hearts melt when their kids come around. Despite not knowing these stars personally, their social sites give us a glimpse on the love they have for their children, especially Ty Dolla $ign.
We talked to the singer briefly on the subject of fatherhood and what it means to him. The rapper has a nine-year old —”I used to always want a boy and when I had a girl I thought I wasn’t going to like it, but I love having a girl. It’s now the complete opposite. When I have a boy I’m going to have to be there at all times, it’ll be more work with a boy for sure”—and she ever since he welcomed her into the world, she changed his life for the better.
“I can’t stop thinking about her. I can’t ever stop talking about her. We always FaceTime, play games on the phone and stay in contact as much as we can.” Learning from his father the motto, “There’s no such thing as try and no such thing as can’t,” he’s lives by those rules when it comes to raising his mini me.
But what about following his footsteps? The singer wants his daughter to take his “grind” and “drive,” but he’s not pushing her to sing music notes in the booth. “If she really wants to do music, that’s cool I want her to try and figure out something that she loves, not just do what I’m doing and being an individual.”
