Less than a week since we said our final goodbyes to Maya Angelou, we lost another star. With heavy hearts, we report that actress, activist and stage legend Ruby Dee passed away yesterday (June 11) in New Rochelle, N.Y. She was 91 years old. Her death was confirmed today by a family member.
The Cleveland-born Emmy and Grammy Award winner is known best for her role in A Raisin in the Sun (Broadway version), Roots: The Next Generation, and Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever. She often starred in films beside her husband Ossie Davis (he passed away in 2005) and they also co-starred in their own show, Ossie and Ruby.
We send our condolences to her family , friends, and fans around the world.
