Another day, another Aaliyah debate hits the headlines. This time Keshia Chante’s speaking up.

For years the 106th & Park host was rumored to play the ”One in a Million” singer, but when the official press release was issued, her name was noticeably absent—Zendaya Coleman is to star in the Lifetime biopic Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. While the movie’s negative buzz continues to rise, Keshia Chante has kept her lips sealed, until now. In an Instagram post to her loyal fans that continue to ride for her attaining the coveted spot, she posted in a lengthy message explaining the ordeal.

“Now regarding the Aaliyah film, I just want to say Thank You all for the outpouring of support. You guys went so hard!! It’s really touching to know that you root for me! Words can’t even express. But this particular project just wasn’t for me. After learning more about the situation & how the Haughton family truly felt, I just didn’t feel like it was right. But at the end of the day, this is just one, of what will be many movies on Babygirl’s life. So maybe one day, if it’s the right circumstance, timing & I get the blessing, I’ll choose to be a part of something. Until then, keep #Aaliyah’s legacy alive & positive! And support my girl Zendaya who is just living out her dreams & working hard to do so! xo KC”

Teyana Taylor also admitted it was the family drama that made her gracefully bow out. Neither commented on whether they were picked and declined or they already took themselves out of the race before the verdict was read.

The drama surrounding the biopic is becoming harder to keep up with. We hope the network has respectable film script up their sleeve to quiet the naysayers. Until then, stay tuned to see who else gets thrown into the mix.
