Despite all of the odds being stacked against her, Gabourey Sidibe has bottled up the type of confidence most women wish they could achieve. This week, the American Horror Story actress was on hand at the Ms. Foundation for Women’s Gloria Award and Gala where she gave a riveting speech about her own personal journey to self love.
Recounting a time when she had no friends because of her dark skin and “weird hair,” the Oscar nominee managed to take that animosity and use it as fuel to push herself forward in later years.
“I’m an a—hole! Okay? It’s my good time, and my good life, despite what you think of me. I live my life, because I dare. I dare to show up when everyone else might hide their faces and hide their bodies in shame…I show up because I’m an a—hole, and I want to have a good time,” she declared.
