The future Broadway musical inspired by Tupac Shakur has found its star– poet Saul Williams, who was featured in the film Slam.
According to the ”Holler If Ya Hear Me” producers of the play, the rest of the cast of which will include Tonya Pinkins, Christopher Jackson, Saycon Sengbloh, Ben Thompson and John Earl Jelks.
“Holler if Ya Hear Me” is not a bio-musical of the late rapper, but one that incorporates his songs to delve into the tale of two friends who live in a low-income neighborhood in the Midwest. The play will feature some of Pac’s greatest hits like “California Love,” ”Keep Ya Head Up,” and “Me Against the World.”
The musical begins previews on May 29 and will open June 19 at the Palace Theatre.
