Your story is very inspiring. Can you tell us a little more about your story and your progress?
I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 24; I just graduated college and it was really shocking for me to find out that I had cancer. I was completely healthy and my family was healthy. It was tough. I didn’t know what was going on; it came as a shock to me and my family. After the treatment, I was healed and it was definitely a life changing experience.
The cancer came at such an exciting time of my life. I just graduated college, my husband was in the NBA and life was great. Back then, I was like, “This is turn up time!” (Laughs) and then God said, “Hold on baby, I got other plans for you.” I lost my hair, I gained weight from all the different medications I was taking and that really took a toll on my self esteem.
Although my experience was shocking and heartbreaking, it was also a humbling experience. I learned so much: who my friends were, how important family is and how loving my husband is. At first I was like, “God, why me?” But I realized that he chooses the best things for the best people.
