Rosalind Brewer is the CEO of Sam’s Club, the $56.4 billion in 2012 revenue division of Wal-Mart. While Wal-Mart shoppers hunt for low down prices, Sam’s Club customers open their wallets for mass quantities of premium goods like grass-fed beef and organic milk. Brewer has even added Wi-Fi to her 620 locations in the U.S., Brazil and China in an effort to ramp up Smartphone shopping.
The Spelman alumnae chemistry major came to the big box chain in 2006 from consumer-products maker Kimberly-Clark Corp, where she started as a scientist. Brewer is the first woman and the first African American to become the CEO of a Wal-Mart business unit.
