Karen Byrd founded Natural Girls United in 2011 after noticing the lack of diversity amongst Barbie dolls at her local toy store. “I had dolls that were gorgeous, but they did not look like me,” said the entrepeneur of the classic toy staple.
Karen’s company customizes dolls with natural hairstyles and a variety of skin tones to represent women of color. As the company continues to thrive, she has continued to expand her business by accepting clients from the United Kingdom, Australia and Africa. What an exciting transition in African-American history!
