While we were bringing lots of things in for the New Year, M.I.A. was letting one major thing go, her management. The pop rapper tweeted on New Years Eve that she would no longer be represented by Roc Nation. “2013 i found old tweet to bring u this. I’m leaving @RocNation . Thanks to everyone who supported the M.I.A #MATANGI LP. HAPPY NEW YEAR | 2014.”
It’s no secret that Jay Z’s company and the Sri Lankan artist didn’t see eye to eye especially when it came to handling filmmaker Steve Loveridge. While shooting a documentary about M.I.A. Loveridge leaked some of the footage, and although her former management fired him over the leakage, she felt it should have been handled differently. Also they had creative differences over her album, Matangi, which despite it’s positive review was pushed back many times.
Shortly after tweeting her departure, she tweeted about job opportunities. “MIA 4 the people by the people, looking for young people to work in fields of ART production/ MUSIC/ MERCH/ FILM/ WEB/ MARKETING.”
