12 years a slave cast

The 71st Golden Globes were held at their usual watering hole, the Beverly Hills Hilton, on Sunday (Jan. 12). The competition was stiff. In the category for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama alone, 12 Years A Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and Idris Elba, who played the late Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, were up against four-time winner Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) and veteran Robert Redford (All Is Lost). The award eventually went to
Matthew McConaughey for his role as an AIDS-stricken hustler in Dallas Buyers Club. While 12 Years A Slave took home the coveted Best Motion Picture- Drama award, Dallas Buyers Club took home two awards, both for the male roles in the film. David O. Russell’s American Hustle was also a big winner scooping Best Motion Picture, Best Performance By An Actress and Best Performance By An Actress in a Supporting Role in the comedy or musical category.

One of the surprises of the evening was the two wins for new FOX comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine starring Saturday Night Live vet Andy Samberg. The show won for Best Performance By An Actor (Samberg) in A Television Series and Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical.
