I actually gave her this advice in person. I told her what she needs to do is to of course respect her mother like she’s doing and show, but she also needs to understand she’s a grown woman and she has a life to live. She should marry Todd and do everything she wants to do and her mom will jump on the bandwagon. I feel like her mom is just a little scared right now, that’s all.
Right, she wants to protect her.
Right, and our moms are very much alike. My mom is very protective. The moms of Real Housewives of Atlanta don’t play about their children so I said just go with it, follow your heart and get married.
How did you reach this point of self-awareness?
Prayer. I was most aware of who I was and who I belonged to right before I got married when I was 25. I was very spiritual and very much into the church and for me I was just lost after the divorce. I hadn’t really been going to church that much.
We have a lot of readers who are always going through tough break-ups. What’s your advice to these ladies.
My advice would be to remember what they originally wanted to get out of the relationship. A lot of times when you get in a relationship you put on blinders and you ignore the red flags and you just move right along with it because he’s cute. If you break up with somebody, and you point your finger then that’s bad. I had to accept some of the blame and accept that I’ve swept some things under the rug
What did you sweep under the rug?
There were just different things I swept under the rug and acted like it was ok and it really wasn’t and again that’s a way that you allow yourself to be treated. So once you accept the blame for your part in the break up then you start working on you from the inside out.
Sounds like you should write a book!
I will. Absolutely. I went through a lot in that two-year marriage. It was two years but there was a child that was going be born. I feel like I don’t know it all, but I feel like I have the gift of the discernment and I can sense what people need to know. I definitely want to write a book and I don’t know what type of book it’ll be but I have a lot to say but not right now, I have a lot on my plate.
You’re very beautiful on and off the show, what are your beauty secrets?
Thank you! I’m glad you asked me that! I’m actually looking to start my own makeup line to be launched in February. People love my eyelashes. They love my shadows and I’m going to offer that to people and share it.
As for my secrets, I wash my face with Neutrogena, and sometimes I put cortisone on my face. Sometimes when you wake up and your skin is dry and you put make up it’s like an ash bomb, so on those days I put Neutrogena on and cortisone on and let it sit and then later on I’ll wash it off.
How long do you let it sit?
Just a couple of hours; while I’m cooking dinner or watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta. I’ll go back and wipe it off and I don’t put anything on my face after that. Even better than cortisone is coconut oil. It’s amazing.
If you wake up in the morning and have blemishes, take a lemon and cut it in half and just rub it on those areas and let it sit for about twenty minutes and then you come back and wipe that off and it’ll help get rid of your blemishes.
Do you have a signature fragrance?
Coco Chanel. I wear that every day. And Vera Wang. Those are two that I just love.
Do you have any other make up favorites?
I like ‘Snob’ lipstick by MAC. And a good highlighter. Once I put foundation on, I look very bland so I have to come back and highlight my nose and cheeks.
