When Jay-Z collaborated with Kanye West and Rihanna for the 2009 single, “Run This Town,” it became a monster hit that soared up the charts. According to Radaronline.com, the rapper turned mogul is being sued by New York record label TufAmerica Inc. for using an unauthorized sample of a 1969 track called “Hook & Sling Part 1″ by Eddie Bo for the song. The label claims that the sample is used numerous times in “Run This Town” and they are requesting proceeds from the song. Further damages are to be determined at trial and a court order to cease “further distribution and exploitation” of ‘Hook & Sling Part 1.’ The suit goes after Roc-A-Fella Records, LLC and Atlantic Records in addition to Jay.
Hmmm, I wonder why the company waited four years to file this suit. Maybe they wanted the track to rack up as much money as possible so that they could get a huge payout if they win the case. Only time will tell what happens, but lets hope this mess can be solved peacefully. If this turns out to be true I need Jay to have better people doing research into the origin of the beats used for his tracks.
