History Channel to Remake Roots Movie?

Posted by on Nov 7, 2013

With all the black educational films released this year, the history channel finds it an opportune time to remake Roots. The 1977 mini-series was America’s first glimpse of what slavery looked like and it won nine Emmys.

According to Deadline, the network has rights to the movie and book Roots: The Saga of an American Family and are in the development phase. “We would like to revive that cultural icon for a new audience,” Dirk Hoogstra, History Networks executive vie president and GM.
