The life and times of music executive Neil Bogart may be getting the Spike Lee treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the esteemed filmmaker is being courted to direct the biopic Spinning Gold, who has tapped Justin Timberlake for the lead role.

After being announced during the Cannes Film Festival in May, the Foresight Unlimited project will delve into Bogart’s career and his contribution to the rise of disco. The late founder of Casablanca Records, who died at age 39 in 1982, was credited for the discovery and launching of the careers of such artists from Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight, KISS to Donna Summer and The Village People.

Timothy Scott Bogart, Neil Bogart’s son, wrote the script and is producing alongside Laurence Mark, Gary A. Randall, Timberlake and Mark Damon. In May, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions inked a deal to distribute Spinning Gold in numerous film markets.

Lee’s next cinematic offering comes Nov. 27 with Old Boy, starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson and Elizabeth Olsen.

This past summer, the die-hard Knicks fan also launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a movie he described as a “psychological thriller involving people addicted to blood.”
