Quincy Jones played a huge role in creating Michael Jackson’s legacy and now he wants a piece of it. This week, the legendary composer/producer filed a $10 million lawsuit against the gloved one’s estate, claiming he hasn’t been compensated enough for his contributions to multiple albums and projects.

His attorney, Henry Gradstein, tells THR. “Quincy has been frustrated with these matters for a number of years, felt he was not making any progress and needed to take more formal action.”

Quincy’s work with Michael spans almost 40 years and includes producing classic albums Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad and the charity single “We Are the World.” According the lawsuit, Jackson and Sony signed a secret deal in the 80′s that would give Jones the “backend piece” of any deals involving revamped tracks.

Attorney Howard Weitzman has since submitted a statement on behalf of the Jackson estate.

“[We are] saddened to learn that Quincy Jones has filed a lawsuit seeking money from Michael’s estate. To the best of [the estate's] knowledge, Mr. Jones has been appropriately compensated over approximately 35 years for his work with Michael.”
