Julianne Hough Tweets Apology for Blackface Costume

Dancer and actress Julianne Hough posted an apology on her Twitter account after she received backlash for her Halloween costume Friday night. The 25-year-old dressed up as her favorite character, Crazy Eyes, from the hit Netflix dramedy Orange is the New Black. She wore dark makeup to make herself look Black and wore the characters signature bantu knots. After she offended both fans and celebrities alike, she issued this apology via Twitter:

“I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.”
