VIBE Vixen: Where did you come up with the idea to transition from sports to fashion design?
Ray Edwards: I came up with the idea after seeing a lot of shirts that I didn’t like. I’m a very positive person and I thought I could design a shirt that’s very uplifting.
Nice. So, what’s the meaning behind the name True Ink?
It’s a reflection of the sayings that I personally feel are true. I feel that since the shirts inspire people I wanted the collection to be about being real and truthful. You don’t have to tell a lie and you don’t have to live a lie.
Right. How heavily are you involved in the production? Do you come up with the sayings, or the style of shirts that are used? Are you a part of the manufacturing process?
I’m very hands on. I have a team that I work with that comes up with sayings they feel can attach to the whole community. I work together with them. Even with the manufacturing process, I tell them how I want it packaged and how to get it out to the people. I’m very hands on with it. I’m not someone that just tells people what I want and just try and make a name. I hosted my first fashion show I had for the line and that’s just me. I’m very much a hands on person.
