Need a little privacy while getting that ‘fro coifed or those tracks tightened? Sounds impossible at worst and rare at best. However, Vanity Hair Studio NYC prides itself on providing clients with an experience devoid of stranger’s gaze while getting your tresses laid.
For Blogger Beauty Week , appointments were scheduled at Vanity Hair Studio in the heart of Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy. When you walk into the chic, cozy atmosphere of Vanity you instantly relax, tucking the hustle and bustle of the city deep down in your pocket for the time you’re there. Natasha, the shop’s owner, is a pleasure.
“Would you like some champagne, water or juice?” she asks. “Yes, girl, have your glass of champagne while sitting under the dryer.”
As women, we’re particular about who we allow to touch our hair. Natasha consults with her clients thoroughly before even putting on your cape. She is serious about getting the style and look the client desires. One of the reasons Natasha opened the shop is because she wanted to give women (and men) an opportunity to get their hair done in solitude. There are three to four styling rooms with individual doors, a shampoo room and the dryer room, which is equipped with a flat screen TV and magazines galore for your delight. The only time you’d have to see another client is if you’re both under the dryer at the same time.
We don’t know about you, but the idea of a secluded space for only you and your stylist sounds like heaven. Although the culture of the beauty shop can be highly entertaining during those girl talk sessions, sometimes you don’t want to be bothered. And exposing yourself to women you don’t know while sitting with a plastic shower cap on your head as the deep conditioner sets isn’t exactly ideal.
Natasha specializes in natural hair and repairing hair for clients who suffer from some form of hair loss or damage. But that doesn’t mean she won’t cut up on a chic, short pixie or extensions.
Natasha couldn’t have been a more attentive stylist. Her chic salon and professionalism make you feel like you’re receiving star-studded treatment without the shi shi foo foo pretention. If you’re not in the mood for a kumbaya girl talk at the salon, head to Vanity and get your privacy on.
