While many oblige, a new study led by psychologist David Frederick of Champan University in California reveals that two out of three men would rather their partner foot the bill but 76% are too guilty to pocket the change.
Study Shows Most Men Think Women Should Front The Bill On Dates
The world of dating is tricky. First weird conversations, followed by awkward silences and then the reach for the bill—the seemingly last pillar of chivalry is the expectation of the man picking up the check.
Women may half-hardheartedly attempt to reach for the bill knowing that their offer to pay isn’t always genuine. According to the New York Daily News, “Fifty-seven percent of women claimed they had offered to pay for a date—although 39% confessed they hoped the man would reject their offer to chip in.”
For men, the expectation to always pay never dwindles. “Eight-four percent of men, and 58% of women, reported that men pay for most dating expenses, even after they’ve been going steady for a while,” the Daily News reports.
Ladies watch out, if you really do like a guy you might want to offer to handle the bill every once and a while because the study shows 44% of men are prepared to leave those ladies who don’t. —Alley Olivier
