ASAP Rocky ruffled more than a few feathers when he claimed that dark skinned black women couldn’t rock a red lip.
“I feel like with the red lipstick thing it all depends on the pair of complexion. I’m just being for real. You have to be fair skinned to get away with that. Just like if you were to wear like—f*cking for instance, what do dark skin girls have that you know fair skinned girls cant do… Purple lipstick?,” he told The Coveteur in April.
While the short-lived controversy prompted the opposition of women everywhere, For Brown Girls is taking their campaign for red lipstick viral. Founder Karyn Washington recently launched the #DarkSkinRedLip Project, an online forum displaying hundreds of black women rocking their favorite shade of rouge.
Today, YOU can join the 1,000+ group of women with your own version of red lip glam. If you want to join the movement, send one photo of yourself wearing red lipstick to firstname.lastname@example.org, visit darkskinredlip.com and use the Twitter hashtag #DarkSkinRedLip to show your support.
