We all grew up on Tia Mowry-Hardict. Since being introduced to her on ‘Sister, Sister,’ we fell in love with her and her twin, Tamera Mowry-Housley. Watching her transition from a young teenage girl to a beautiful mother and loving wife, has been like watching our own sibling mature. So you can imagine our surprise when our play-play sister decided to go vegan, naturally we were curious. The PETA vegan supporter uses her Style Network reality show, “Tia and Tamera,” as well as her new campaign as a platform to further promote a healthier lifestyle.
The 35-year-old actress was inspired to change her eating habits by her health-conscious hubby, and although she’s gotten slack for her diet change, she has no regrets. The former “The Game” star is debunking vegan myths, promoting its benefits, and offering tasty treat ideas for vixens open to trying a meatless meal.
VIBE Vixen: What made your up and decide to become vegan?
Tia Mowry-Hardict: It was for health reasons. I had endometriosis and my doctor told me I had to change my diet. Once I altered my diet, I was able to get pregnant. Also, cancer runs in my family – so I wanted to start living a healthier lifestyle. After doing a lot of research it became very clear that becoming a vegan was the best choice for me.
What was the hardest part about transitioning to a vegan diet?
Breaking habits. I loved sushi and ate it all the time. It was actually more of a social thing for me, but once I became vegan, habits like socializing over sushi had to change, and that was a challenge.
