Beyoncé recently switched up her set during her Mrs. Carter Show tour stop in Detroit to give an uplifting performance of the Sam Cooke classic “A Change Is Gonna Come.” The last-minute addition showed love to the D’s finest, including Kid Rock, Eminem and Aretha Franklin, in an accompanying video montage after news swept that the city had filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy. The clip ended with the phrase, “Nothing Stops Detroit!”
“This was a unique tribute to the history of an incredible city and a celebration of the strong spirit of its people,” Bey’s rep told Billboard. Detroit is reportedly $18-20 billion deep in debt, the largest bankruptcy filing in U.S. history.
