Same sex marriage can resume in California.
The Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 count that the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional. With this ruling, the LGBTO community will be able to receive the same benefits as heterosexual married couples.
California has also ruled that Prop 8 supporters had no legal standing to bring the case to the Supreme Court. Prop 8 will only affect those in California; however, DOMA will affect married couples in the United States if their state allows same-sex marriage.
Although California celebrated, they also acknowledged that the fight isn’t over until everyone in the United States has the same rights.
