Lolo Jones may be lauded for her athletic abilities, but the Olympian finds herself in hot water over a controversial tweet. Like everyone else, the track and field/bobsled athlete is watching the George Zimmerman trial unfold on national television. Earlier this week, 19-year old Rachel Jeantel was revealed as the last person to talk to Trayvon Martin when she took the stand for a five and a half hour cross examination.
As expected, multiple media outlets have criticized the teenager for her appearance and speech, including Jones who decided that adding fuel to the fire would be “smart.”
“Rachel Jeantel looked so irritated during the cross-examination that I burned it on DVD and I’m going to sell it as Madea goes to court,” the 30-year old tweeted during Jeantel’s time on the stand.
Her insensitive comment has since been met with outrage for comparing the distraught witness with a fictional movie character. Besides the fact that both women are African-American, we find no similarities between the two.
Jones has yet to comment on the controversy.
